Hot Talent Art Show

Thanks to everyone who attended the Hot Talent Art Show! We had a fantastic turnout, and we hope you enjoyed the evening of music, art, and casual cuisine.

A special thanks to those who submitted their work. Most of the hanging art is still on display at Hot Corner downtown.

Thomas Lay After School Program

more photos

The Thomas Lay After School Program, which was started by former HPSC President Ilya Gokhman, began as a tutoring program for children in the Bethel Community. However, as more UGA students became involved and the number of children increased, the need for a larger facility developed. Across the street from Bethel Community, the Thomas N. Lay Community Center offered a perfect space for the expanding group of children and tutors and now provides an excellent facility for the 100+ UGA students to help the nearly 50 children registered with the program.

The Thomas Lay Center and Memorial Gym is an ideal venue for the numerous ways tutors work with the kids. On Monday through Friday from 3:00-5:00 p.m., tutors help with homework in the study/computer room, read with the kids in the library, do creative projects in the arts and crafts room, play games with the kids in the gym, and have fun on the playground.

With the help of individuals from the University and the Athens area, UGA students have already organized special events for the children such as a visit from the UGA women's basketball team, a trip to Bear Hollow Zoo, a fossil dig at Sandy Creek Park, and weekly trips.
